Assignment Details:
·      Reading Engagements: (120 points)
o   There are six reading engagements throughout the class. All should be submitted before class on the day they are due. They are worth 20 points each.
·      Debate Notes: (75 points)
o   On a particular day in class we will be having a debate. On that day you are required to come with debate notes with details for each side of the argument on them. Your notes are worth 25 points and your participation in the debate is worth 50 points for a total of 75 points.
·      Final Research Paper topic/thesis (20 points)
o   On an assigned day you are required to bring in yout intended topic/thesis for your research paper. This assignment is worth 20 points.
·      Final Research Paper (200 points)
o   In addition to our work in class you will be required to complete a 4-5 page double-spaced research paper on another Chicano performance of your choice. In the paper, you should consider the summary of the performance, the context of the performance, the goal of the performance, whether it achieved those goals, and your personal reaction to the performance. While this is not a traditional research paper it should be treated as a formal paper. It is worth 200 points.
·      Final Performance and Justification: (200 points)
o   In groups of 4-6, you will be required to create a 3-5-minute performance/music video that is important to/for your community and says something important about your community. In addition to presenting your performance, you will also give a five-minute presentation justifying your group’s choices and what those choices say about your culture. Everyone must participate in EITHER the performance or the justification, but do not have to participate in both. This assignment is worth 200 points.
