Day One:

·      Performing Blackness: Disrupting “Race” in the Classroom
·      WATCH: Performing Race: A Collaborative Project (YouTube)
Assignment Due:
·      Reading Engagement 1: Performing Race
o   In the reading, the story was shared of Ahmed and how his race was “interpellated” and “performed.” Using examples from the reading, define both of these terms and then in about 250 words explain how your race has been “interpellated” and “performed.”

Day Two:
Reading Due:
·      WATCH: Color Blind or Color Brave? (TED)
·      WATCH: Star Bellied Sneeches (YouTube)
Assignment Due:
In-Class Activity:
·      Star Bellied Sneech activity: The class will be split into two groups, star bellied Sneeches and non-star bellied Sneeches. Each group will spend time creating its very own specific culture (handshakes, phrases, mannerisms, etc.) and then will interact with each other. This will help tie together the ideas of race, culture, and performance.
